Wow don't they do things differently since I was at school (1986)?
Was really interesting last night at Reece's school about how they teach Maths now.
Basically they don't even look at teaching the kids their times tables until about year 3 and everything is based around grouping, 'tidy' numbers (5, 10, 15, 20 etc) and learning different strategies rather than just learning one way (times tables) and writing it down. They play games to make it fun and the kids love it and learn to use their brains more (there's an idea!).....LOL
www.nzmaths.co.nz is a website they gave us to have a look at which explains it and under the 'family' jigsaw piece, is all about the different games you can help teach your kids.
Not much else to report.
Food was great yesterday even with chinese takeaways for dinner (saved enough points), I'm amazed at what I eat now which usually consists of a chicken chow mein or something with lots of vege's rather than sweet and sour pork or egg fu young etc.
Water was spot on (3 litres)
Exercise completed (lunchtime walk)
State of mind - Positive!

argh maths!!! trust me for teachers its hard to get your head around...!!!!
its good they're informing you on whats happening, i think that should happen in all schools so parents can support the childrens learning...
omg go the water!!!!
GO THE POSITIVE ATTITUDE..thats half the battle isn't it?!
I went to college for my education degree and did my student teaching for Grades 2 and 3 - I couldn't believe the math that we were teaching. It was nothing like what I was taught. I was learning it all over again myself! Glad that you are doing well!
Numeracy is great!! I think it even helps me when I work things out.
wow 3 litres of water, I take my hat off to you. I struggle to get 2 in.
OMG I went through this a couple of weeks ago and didn't post it on my blog but thought it was weird as I was talking to the teacher about Corbin's maths and the way he is doing it and she said that is the way we teach it... it is the weirdest way to do it that is for sure... and I find it more difficult... but I suppose they have to do what they are told...

Thanks for stopping by my place and commenting. Rest assured I'm feeling somewhat better today.
I remember when my kids were small and had to teach them math. Everything is so different these days. I'm fine with basic math, thank goodness DH is an Engineer so he helped them out when things got complicated.
Hope you have a great weekend. See you on the net.
